as a professor in the MFA program for comtemporary visual art at Parsons School of Art and Design, rania’s job was to conduct individual studio visits with graduate students, alerting her to similarities between good (constructive) therapy and studio visits. individual sesssions for artists at cinema antiplastique combine dr khalil’s training in embodied movement and video practice and her experience being mentored by several of nyc’s avant garde luminaries including theatre director richard foreman and therapist sippio small. cinema antiplastique’s individual sessions for artists integrate rania’s master’s degree and post graduate training at the ackerman institute for families with her ongoing research and studies of post colonial thought, third world feminism and ecological justice. rania’s experience as a working artist in post 9/11 new york city and as a woman of color completing a practice based doctorate in artistic research in a nordic european art school, lend to her understanding of the systemic nature of artist’s oppression, and her principles of kindness and (action based) empathy and compassion towards artists. rania presently teaches part time and is a tenured professor in NYU’s Steinhardt School’s interdisciplinary BFA program.
